The European Union has enacted multiple legislative measures to accelerate the adoption of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)and also introduced comprehensive SAF support policies.
In October 2023, the European Council adopted the ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation, mandating minimum SAF blending quotas for aviation fuel suppliers at EU airports starting at 2% in 2025, then progressively increasing at five-year intervals to 6% by 2030, 20% by 2035, 34% by 2040, 42% by 2045, and culminating in 70% by 2050.
